Air Vice Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan, OSP, BUP, ndc, nswc, afwc, psc, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), has called on the airlines concerned to take effective measures to reduce passenger fares due to the decrease in the price of jet fuel used in aviation.
He made this call at an important meeting held at the CAAB headquarters yesterday at 4 pm.
He said that airlines need to take quick and effective steps to ensure that the passengers get the benefits of the reduction in jet fuel prices in terms of fares. All the airline representatives present at the meeting agreed and said that they will take steps to implement the matter very soon.
In addition, in the meeting, the Chairman of CAAB and other airline representatives present sincerely congratulated NovoAir for resuming its flight operations from May 21, 2025.
In the meeting, the Chairman of CAAB said that the activities of the much-awaited third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will officially begin by December 2025.
He said that all construction and service activities of the terminal will be conducted following international standards, so that domestic and foreign passengers can receive the highest quality and modern services.
In the meeting, the Chairman of CAAB also said that the process of converting Cox`s Bazar Airport into an international airport is already in its final stages as part of a coordinated plan by the government and the Civil Aviation Authority.
He said that the work of ensuring necessary infrastructure development and security, customs, immigration and other facilities according to international standards is progressing at a rapid pace.
He expressed hope that international flights will start at Cox`s Bazar Airport from the end of June or the beginning of July 2025.
The Chairman of the CAAB stressed on increasing the number of cargo flights from Osmani International Airport in Sylhet and Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.
He said that it is important to launch more cargo operations from these two important international airports to make the country`s export trade more dynamic and effective.
He called on the concerned airlines and cargo operators to come forward for this purpose.
The Chairman of the CAAB stressed on increasing the number of international flights from Sylhet, Chittagong and Cox`s Bazar airports.
He called on the airline representatives to be interested in launching new international routes centered around these airports and take initiatives to operate regular flights. In this context, he assured that the Civil Aviation Authority will provide all-out support to ensure the necessary infrastructure, logistical support and administrative facilities for this purpose.
The airline representatives participating in the meeting highlighted various challenges including ground handling.
He assured that necessary measures would be taken as soon as possible to resolve these problems.
He said, “We are committed to removing all kinds of obstacles through close coordination with the airlines to make air travel easier, more affordable and more efficient.”
The meeting was attended by members of the Board (Flight Standards and Regulations), Director (Flight Standards and Regulations) of the CAAB, as well as high-ranking representatives and officials of domestic and foreign airline companies, who actively participated in the discussion and expressed their opinions on various issues.
