Barguna District Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Zila Parishad Chairman Alhaj Md Jahangir Kabir was arrested. He was arrested on charges of creating chaos and conspiring for counter-coup by talking to Sheikh Hasina over the phone. He was arrested from Barguna yesterday morning.
Barguna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter.
He said a police team from Dhaka came and arrested him. It is believed that he was arrested on charges of creating chaos and conspiring against the counter-coup after talking to Sheikh Hasina over mobile. However, he could not confirm the reason for the arrest.
Earlier on Monday, the AL leader talked to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over the phone. During the three-minute phone conversation, Sheikh Hasina told Jahangir Kabir that you will carry out party activities following discipline. National Mourning Day will be observed on August 15. Md Jahangir Kabir told Sheikh Hasina, "Apa, don't lose your morale. When you lose morale, we become weak. We are strong."
After that, Sheikh Hasina said, why should I be nervous? I wasn't afraid. You see how our police force has been killed and hanged. They killed our workers. This country became independent in exchange for blood.
