Artist Amir-un-Nagar was honored and awarded by the initiative of Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation. Amir-un-Nagar, wife of deceased Abdus Salam of Alipur village in Satkhira, was awarded in this.
In a ceremony on February 3, Senior Secretary of Bangladesh Works Commissioner, Director General of Bangladesh Museum and Director General of Sonargaon Museum AKM Rezaul Karim and Amjad Hossain presented the award on behalf of Satkhira Shilpi Samiti.
Amir-un-Nagar was born on August 10, 1945 in Alipur Dighi Par area. Even though he passed 5th standard, he is unmatched in efficiency. Currently there are 5 members in his family. She is the mother of 3 sons and 1 daughter. His elder son Alamgir Hossain is an engineer in the Government Ordnance Factory, his younger son Anwar Hossain is a project engineer at Dhaka Wasa, his younger son Zakir Hossain is an officer in BRAC Bank, his daughter Nazmun Nahar is an engineer and his elder grandson Masood Kamal is an engineer. Her husband passed away on December 31, 2007.
He started making nakshikantha from a young age. He started learning by watching work from his mother. Later, inspired by her husband and motivated by her sense of patriotism, she created Kantha Shilpa. Since then he has been working on his own experience and generational mindset. In other words, he used to work as a hobby and then he worked for the pleasure of his heart. Earlier he received 3 awards locally in Satkhira. The Nakshi Kantha titled map of Bangladesh is displayed in the Sonargaon Museum. Apart from this, he has preserved several Nakshikanthas including another Map Kantha, similar to our Gramkhani picture. He is a famous artist in Nakshikantha art of Bangladesh. He is 78 years old. Even at this age, he worked in making kantha.
His hand embroidery was submitted to Bangladesh Folk and Crafts 40 years ago. Which has brought many awards in various arenas of the country and outside the country.
