Case against 287 BNP activists

A case was filed against 287 leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in connection with the clash of the party with the police in Kushtia. Last Sunday afternoon, the Sub-Inspector (SI) of Police Station Mr. Ali filed this case at Kushtia Model Police Station as the plaintiff.

District BNP Vice President Bashirul Alam Chand, Joint General Secretary Engineer Zakir Hossain Sarkar, Organizing Secretary Advocate Shamim Ul Hasan Apu, District Jubo Dal General Secretary Kamal Uddin, District Secha Sebok Dol General Secretary Abu Saeed Zakaria Uppal, District Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Khandkar Taslim Uddin Nishat has been accused in the case including 37 people.

Besides, another 250 persons have been named as unidentified accused in the case. Police have arrested one person in this case. 8 unexploded cocktails and 24 motorcycles were seized from the spot.The person arrested in the case is Sadikur Rahman (63), the son of the deceased Abdur Rahman of Kaburhat Miapara area of ​​Sadar Upazila, the main accused in the case.

Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Sohel Rana confirmed the case and said that BNP leaders and activists organized a program in the Kaburhat area on the afternoon of June 8 without obtaining permission from the police. The police went there based on information that BNP leaders and workers might create chaos due to their internal conflicts. At that time, BNP, Juba Dal, and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists attacked the police. The police fired several rounds of bullets and tear shells to bring the situation under control.

The official said that a case has been filed under the Special Power Act and the crime of a pre-planned attempt to murder by keeping cocktails. An accused has been arrested in the case and sent to court. The court ordered him to be sent to prison.

Meanwhile, Kushtia district BNP has condemned and protested the cases and attacks against the activists. In a ‍speech sent by District BNP President Syed Mehdi Ahmed Rumi and General Secretary Principal Sohrab Uddin, they strongly condemned and protested the incident of firing, tear shells, and rubber bullets during the police attack on the workers' meeting.
