Income of Chattogram port is up in global recession. During the financial year 2023-24, Chattogram port handled around 3.17 million containers as well as 1.24 million metric tonnes of goods.
However, in 2022-23 fiscal year, 4 thousand 253 cargo ships arrived at Chittagong port, but 3 thousand 964 ships arrived in 2023-24 fiscal year. Rear Admiral M Sohail, chairman of Chattogram Port Authority, said that unrest is going on all over the world. The economy is also down.
However, the income of Chattogram port is on the upward trend. Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Mohammad Omar Faruq said, Chattogram port has progressed both in container and cargo. Income has increased here.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that in the 11 months of the current financial year, 11.34 million tons of goods have been imported and exported through Chattogram, the largest port in the country. In the 11 months of the current financial year, Chattogram Port's import-export activities have generated revenue of more than Tk 4100 crore.
He said that since 93 percent of the country's import-export trade is completed through the port, Chattogram Custom House has provided revenue of Tk 69 thousand crore by capitalizing the port. With which Chattogram Custom has set a record. The target was set at Tk 77 thousand 616 crore for the financial year 2023-24. However, an additional revenue of Tk 8000 crore has been collected over the previous financial year.
Md Saidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Custom House, said that this growth has been achieved despite various problems including the dollar crisis.
