Dollars-ornaments looted at Betua ghat

Lessee's men robbed Rakib Patwari (40) of $2600 (Tk 3.90 lakh), 3 loads of gold ornaments brought from Oman at Betua Launch Ghat in Charfesson Upazila of Bhola. The accused are 6-7 people including Kamal and Habibullah.

At this time, expatriate Rakib and his wife Fatema Begum and sister-in-law Hasnain were severely beaten. Passengers rescued them and took them to Charfesson Hospital.

Rakib, an expatriate of Oman, told mediapersons that some people were following them since they boarded the launch yesterday after arriving in the country. Yesterday morning, when he disembarked at the Betua launch ghat, people at the ghat began to struggle with bags and luggage. They had to face various questions from Kamal, Habibullah and 5-6 other persons whose names are not known.

He said, at one point, taking dollars from my money bag with a knife-rubbing from the pocket. They took three (3) bhori ornaments and money from the bag in hand. Meanwhile, they beat me and my sister-in-law Hasnain. As a remittance fighter, I want justice for this incident from the countrymen.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Charfesson police station Shakhawat Hossain said, I have been informed about this incident. The police visited the scene in the morning. Police has collected the list of those involved in this incident. Police have arrested three accused. Police are trying to nab other criminals.
