Police have arrested five people including the main accused Ronu Mia Moin in the murder of Jubo Dal activist Billal Ahmed Munshi (30) in Sylhet.
They were arrested from an area of Narsingdi on Wednesday afternoon. Moin is the president of the Sylhet District Human Hauler Drivers' Union.
Confirming the matter, Shahparan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monir Hossain said that five people including the main accused Moin were arrested on their way to Dhaka based on a secret tip-off. They are being brought to Sylhet. Earlier, on the night of November 25, Bilal was killed in a clash between two parties over a senior-junior dispute in the Bahubal area under Shahparan Police Station in the metropolis. He is the son of Zahurul Islam of that area. The day after Bilal, a painter by profession, was murdered, the deceased's brother Mustafa became the plaintiff and filed a murder case with the police station, making Ronu Mia Moin the main accused. In this incident, locals held a protest procession with the body of the deceased Bilal. The police immediately brought six people to the police station for questioning. However, they were not shown being arrested.
