Movement halt as soil not filled on link road

More than 500 people have been suffering due to non-filling of soil on the connecting road in Chilmari of Kurigram.

About 500 people of the area are suffering due to the construction of a drain on the road adjacent to the house of Nur Islam of South Khauriar Char Mouza area of Nayarhat Union of the upazila.

It was known that the drain was constructed in June in the fiscal year 2023-24 at a cost of Tk 2 lakh under the Annual Development Program (ADP) adjacent to Nur Islam's house in South Khauriar Char Mouza area of Nayarhat Union of Chilmari Upazila in Kurigram. Sanwar Hossain, a UP member of Ward No. 4 of Nayarhat Union, was the chairman of the project.

Alam Sikder, Miron, Rana Mia and many others of South Khauriar Char area of Nazarhat union said that even after the construction of the drain is over, vehicles cannot travel on this road for six months due to lack of connection to the road.  About 300 people walk on this road every day. I request the concerned authorities to dump soil on the road.

Students Sumi Akhter, Tori Khatun, Nayeem Islam and many others said, "It is very difficult for us to go to school as there is no soil on the road. The situation even becomes more worsen during monsoon."

Md Sanwar Hossain, UP member and project chairman of Ward No. 4 of Nayarhat Union, said the work was completed by June. But after that, the road was not soiled because of the flood. There is no flood-rain, now we will fill the soil.

Upazila Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Engineer Md Firozur Rahman said, "Our drain was allocated for the road. The UP member told me that I am inquiring about the dumping of soil on the road."
