Cox's Bazar has become turbulent in the Bay of Bengal under the influence of Cyclone Dana. The naval jetty at Inani beach in Ukhia has been split into two pieces due to the impact of the cyclone.
If the cyclone hits, the remaining part of the jetty may also be damaged. Due to the collapse of the jetty, the tourist journey to St. Martin has become uncertain. Several ships were scheduled to travel to St. Martin's Island from November 1 to pick up tourists from the jetty.
According to the Meteorological Department's 9th bulletin, the cyclone Dana was located 555 km south-west of Cox's Bazar at 6 am yesterday. It is moving in a northwesterly direction. Continuous wind speed within 64 kms of the cyclone centre is about 90 kph rising to 110 kph in gusts/squalls. The sea is very rough. The coast of Cox's Bazar has been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No 3.
Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tanvir Hossain said the sea is very rough due to the impact of the cyclone. However, efforts are underway to find out why the jetty collapsed. The sea is rough under the influence of the storm.
Asked about the collapse of the naval jetty, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin said the same thing.
