Drugs are rampant in every house, destroying the youth. Many import drugs, some smuggle them, some run spots, some sell them retail, and some work as line men. Men and women also consume drugs indiscriminately. Every neighborhood in the village is involved in drugs in some way or the other. Some have fathers, some brothers, some grandfathers, some uncles; this society is ruined by drugs. There is no neighborhood in the village that is not involved in drugs. It is difficult to find a neighborhood that is completely drug-free. Since drugs are easily available, the number of drug addicts is increasing day by day. Many are taking risks in the hope of becoming rich overnight.
As soon as you enter the border area, you can see empty bottles of various drugs including Phensedyl. These bottles are found everywhere on the side of the road, in the school field, under the bridge culvert, next to the railway line, in the open field. This drug is destroying teenagers, young people and youth. Children are not left out of this. Children will do what they see when they grow up. That is why conscious parents are worried about the future generation.
Despite regular police patrols and conducting task scopes at different times, drug control is not being achieved. BGB operations, Narcotics Control Department operations, DB operations do not seem to be working at all. The area where drugs can be found just by raising your hand is called Bijoynagar. Bijoynagar upazila has a 34-kilometer border with India. Due to the long border, a section of the residents here have become involved in smuggling various products including drugs.
The border areas of the upazila include Kashinagar, Nalgariya, Noabadi and Mirasani in Singarbil union, Kalachhara, Ikratoli, Kadamtoli, Maheshpur and Chhatarpur in Bishnupur union; Sejamora, Kamalmora, Chandpur, Ghilamora, Kachuamora, Dhoranal and Tofail Nagar of Paharpur Union. These drug addicts are seen in border villages including Harashpur (Khonailla Mora), Sonamora, Dariapur and Jalalpur of Harashpur Union.
Every afternoon, hundreds of drug addicts come to these villages on motorcycles from the district headquarters to consume drugs. Some consume and leave, while others take some with them. According to information received from the police, Narcotics Control Department and BGB, there are at least six hundred drug dealers and more than a hundred drug spots in this upazila. There is a big drug syndicate. That is why the common people are afraid to speak out against them. Drug dealers rule here. The conscious civil society of the upazila is thinking of the police administration taking a stricter role to protect the country from the clutches of drugs.
