The Ministry of Human Resources of the country has suspended the application for approval of the quota for taking new foreign workers from 15 source countries including Bangladesh. Approval is suspended till further orders.
In a statement on Saturday (March 18), Malaysian Human Resources Minister V Shivakumar said that the application and approval of quotas for foreign workers in the Foreign Worker Employment Relaxation Plan (PKPPA) has been suspended from March 18 until a later date is announced.
The decision was taken after the ministry approved a total of 995,396 employment quotas for foreign workers from various sectors till Tuesday (March 14).
Through PKPPA, the number of quota sanctioned in manufacturing, construction, plantation, agriculture and service sectors is taken into consideration. As a result of the number of quotas approved so far for foreign workers, the Minister of Human Resources hopes to be able to meet the labor demand by providing these workers in industries including important sectors.
Requesting all approved employers to process the recruitment of workers and immediate entry of workers during this period, the HRD Minister said, the number of entry of foreign workers is still less than the approved quota of the ministry.
Till March 5, 1 lakh 21 workers have gone to Malaysia. Besides, 1 lakh 9 thousand 500 people have been given clearance from Manpower Employment and Training Bureau-BMET till March 5. Those concerned said that the authorized recruiting agencies are now able to provide flights of more than a thousand workers every day.
On the other hand, as of March 5, Malaysian employers have received approval from the government to hire 3,14,473 workers from Bangladesh. The Ministry of Human Resources of the country has approved 3 lakh 14 thousand 473 quotas for Bangladesh so far.
Earlier, up to March 1, the Bangladesh High Commission's labor welfare wing in Malaysia has confirmed the demand letter for the recruitment of 2 lakh 199 workers. 1 lakh 22 thousand 2 e-visas were issued by MEFC, the organization that cooperates in issuing visas to workers going to Malaysia.
