Polling was held in Damudya and Gosairhat upazilas of Shariatpur in the third phase of upazila parishad elections. In the announced results, Abdur Rashid Golandaj was elected as chairman of Damudya Upazila, and Md Mosharrof Hossain Sardar in Gosairhat Upazila.
In Damudya upazila, Abdur Rashid Golandaz got 24 thousand 98 votes out of 1 lakh 9 thousand 191 voters with the 'Horse' symbol for the post of chairman. His closest rival, Md Alamgir Majhi, got 13 thousand 715 votes for the 'Motorcycle' symbol.
Tala Simbal's candidate BM Sattar has won the post of Vice Chairman. He got 17 thousand 588 votes. His nearest rival Roknuzzaman Khan of the 'Mike' symbol got 15 thousand 217 votes. Shahnaz Akhter of the 'Electric Fan' symbol who won the post of female vice chairman got 19 thousand 855 votes. Her closest rival Khadija Khanam of Simbal's Sewing Machine' got 13 thousand 594 votes.
On the other hand, Md Mosharrof Hossain Sardar was privately elected to the post of Chairman in Gosairhat Upazila. Out of 1 lakh 45 thousand 647 voters of the upazila, he got 20 thousand 187 votes for the 'Helicopter' symbol. His closest rival 'Ghora' symbol candidate Masud Alam got 14 thousand 393 votes. Emdad Hossain Bablu Mridha was the uncontested winner of the post of Vice Chairman.
On the last day of the withdrawal of candidacy for the election on May 12, rival candidates Shahadat Hossain and Abul Kalam withdrew their candidature, and the Election Commission declared Emdad Hossain Bablu Mridha as the unopposed winner. Afsana Lipi, the winner of the Female Vice Chairman 'Electric Fan' symbol got 33 thousand 427 votes. Her nearest rival Farida Begum got 9 thousand 168 votes with the 'Football' symbol.
Election Returning Officer Ziaur Rahman Khalifa and Assistant Returning Officer Md Abu Daud confirmed the matter.
