World Press Fredom Day observed

 

 World Press Fredom Day was celebrated for the first time in Panchgarh's Tentulia. Active journalists of Tentulia organized the event at Journalist Club on Friday at 11 am. A discussion meeting was held at the end of the rally.Abu Taher Ansari, senior vice-president of the press club, presided over the discussion meeting. General Secretary of Tentulia Press Club Abdur Razzak, Baset, Jabedur Rahman Jabed, Roni Miazi, Hafizur Rahman Habib, Khademul Islam, Ahsan Habib, Mobarak Hossain, Julhas Uddin, Rabiul Islam Ratan, Mizanur Rahman Mintu, Mostak Ahmed and others spoke. Local dignitaries also thanked for organizing this event. The program was moderated by SK Doyal, General Secretary of Tentulia Journalist Club and General Secretary of Journalist Welfare Association.In the speech, the speakers discussed various issues related to the interests of journalists including professional protection. They said, from now on, if any unfair incident including underestimation, torture, oppression, threats against any local journalist happens, the journalists will unite and protest against it and take necessary measures to stand by the danger of their colleagues. They also talked about the freedom of journalism, following the basic principles of the media, evaluating the freedom of the media around the world, and supporting the injured journalists while performing their professional duties.

They also said that the fourth pillar of the state is the media. Therefore, in order to ensure a free media, it is necessary to ensure free, free thought and freedom of expression. The cyber security and digital security laws have created a threat to the freedom of press and expression, which is also against the fundamental rights of the constitution which may inhibit free expression. In order to build a smart Bangladesh, they called for creating a free media environment.
