The Islamic Arabic University (IAU) is the responsible institution for Fazil and Kamil madrasah in the country. Most of the teachers in madrasah are Alems or maulanas. They want depositors to be responsible institutions of scholars. But the university examination controller AKM Aktaruzzaman is accused of demanding bribes from the teachers and students of the madrasah. He was also accused of expelling 10 students for not paying the bribe. He seized hundreds of students' exam papers from other institutions by accusing them of a copy. Later on bribery or extortion.
Apart from this, the official of IAU is accused of taking bribes of Tk 3 to 10 lakhs for the center approval of Fazil and Kamil. Recently, such a complaint has been filed against university examination controller AKM Aktaruzzaman to the vice chancellor of the Islamic Arabic University. It is known that at the end of 2022, AKM Aktaruzzaman was appointed as the Controller of Examinations of IAU on a contract basis. He has been accused of indulging in various corruptions and irregularities since taking charge.
He is ex officio secretary of the Fazil and Kamil examination center approval committee. He approved the new center by influencing the committee meeting with huge benefits. His contract expires at the end of next month (May 2024). Due to these irregularities, the teachers of the Madrasah have demanded that his contract not be extended for the second term. At the same time, they also demanded to investigate the corruption against him and take action. It is alleged that he visited the Fazil exam in 2024 of Baitul Mokarram Model Kamil Madrasah, Thapsatgara, Rangpur district, and intimidated the candidates. Then 10 students were expelled. Before the dismissal, he sat in the office of the principal of that madrasah, Anam Hadiuzzaman, and demanded the total bribe amount.
AKM Aktaruzzaman expelled 10 students of the madrasah for not paying the money demanded by the controller of examinations. In this regard, Principal Hadiuzzaman made a written complaint to the VC of IAU but did not get any remedy. Currently, the fear of exam controller AKM Aktaruzzaman is working among the exam candidates of that madrasah.
The Controller of Examination visited Mahimaganj Alia Kamil Madrasah in Gobindganj Upazila of Gaibandha District to visit the Kamil Examination Center in 2023 and the Fazil Examination in 2024. More than a hundred exam papers of the Madrasah were seized and showed fear. Later, sitting in the office of the principal of the madrasah, Aktaruzzaman released those papers after accepting a large sum of bribes. Examination controller AKM Aktaruzzaman accepted the huge amount of deduction in two examinations after the complaints of the parents of the candidates.
The member secretary of the new center committee is exam controller Aktaruzzaman. There is an allegation of taking Tk 3 to 10 lakhs to set up a new Kamil examination center. It is an open secret to the madrasah teachers that they have to pay a bribe of Tk 4 to 5 lakh to the controller of examination for the approval of the center. Last year 2023 there were 140 Kamil examination centers. 2024 new exam center approved 9 more. The Controller of Examinations accepted a bribe of Tk 3 to 4 lakh for approving these 7 new centers.
He is also accused of accepting a bribe of Tk 10 lakh from 2 centers Shahchand Auliya Kamil Madrasah, Patia, and Jaldi Hossainia Kamil Madrasah, Banshkhali of Chattogram division. The teachers of the madrasah said that the contractual term of the exam controller Aktaruzzaman is up to 23/05/2024. We want proper investigation of corruption and bribery against Controller of Examinations Aktaruzzaman to not extend the contract period beyond May 23 and fair trial of corruption and irregularities. Principal ANM Hadiuzzaman said, he does not understand anything except money. To make the exam examiner (answer sheet auditor) takes money. Madrasah teachers who pay money, spell them examiners.
We didn't make any of us examiners because we didn't pay. He is the member secretary in the examination center. He can raise new centers if he wants. He demanded money from any exam center after getting the duplicate. Fired if not paid. And if you give money, you don't get fired. Sometimes he used to attend madrasah at night. He demanded money there. If not, the next day he harassed the students of the center in various ways. Gaibandha's Mahimaganj center and after recovering fakes and mobile phones from more than two hundred students, he released them in exchange of money.
According to the complaint, the controller of examination Aktaruzzaman is working closely with the vice-chancellor of Islamic Arabic University, Dr. Abdur Rashid, to continue corruption and irregularities. He is in contact with the vice-chancellor to renew the contract before the end of the term. But the victims do not want to see the officials who have been accused of corruption again in charge. Although several victims have complained to the media against exam controller Aktaruzzaman, they do not want to go public to avoid harassment.
Aktaruzzaman, Controller of Examinations of Islamic Arabic University, said, I have reduced the long-standing session jam of Islamic Arabic University. Earlier I served in Jagannath University. I fired students and teachers for cheating. Some may complain against me without getting the paper.
Those who have not received the paper can complain. Islamic Arabic University Vice Chancellor Dr. Abdur Rashid said we have not received any complaint against the exam controller. We will take action if we get a complaint. In response to the words that the teachers of the madrasah have sent complaints by the post office, he asked, why do they send complaints by the post office. Come and submit directly. If you get a direct complaint, you can talk to them. However, even if we receive a letter, we investigate.
