12 trucks with Indian sugar seized, 23 held

 

Detective Branch (DB) of Pabna police seized 12 trucks loaded with Indian sugar at Kazirhat Ferry Ghat in Bera upazila of Pabna.  At that time, 23 people, including the driver and helper of the trucks, were detained.

Pabna Superintendent of Police Akbar Ali Munshi said the trucks were seized from Kazirhat Ferry Ghat area around 7pm on last Thursday.

According to a police, the Indian sugar-laden trucks were going to North Bengal through Sylhet's Jayantapur border. It was being supplied to different places in North Bengal via Aricha in Manikganj and Kazirhat Ghat in Pabna.

On the basis of secret information, Pabna District Detective Police had already taken position at Kazirhat Ghat. These trucks are believed to contain at least 242 metric tons of sugar.

Akbar Ali Munshi, superintendent of Pabna police, said the trucks carrying Indian sugar were intercepted by DB police when they reached Pabna's Kazirhat Ghat after crossing Aricha. At that time, they could not show valid documents of the goods. They were then confiscated and 23 people were detained. The case is under process.
