The upazila administration has summoned union chairman Ashraful Islam and secretary Aminul Islam to collect extra tax on the sale and purchase of pepper and betel nuts by Shalbahan Hat No. 4 Union Parishad of Tetulia Upazila of Panchagarh.

It was known that in the last financial year, Tk 200 per truck was collected from dry pepper traders due to union tax, but in the newly revised budget, instead of fixing the tax per truck, Tk 30 per sack (dhop) has been set, which will bring about Tk 6,000 in tax per truck, the traders say. In protest against this, the traders stopped buying and selling pepper. Meanwhile, instead of fixing the tax per truck, a tax of Tk 20 per bag sack has been fixed for betel traders.

Meanwhile, in the letter sent by the administration, within 5 working days, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) has been directed to appear in person at the office and explain the reason for collecting the additional tax. The letter signed by UNO Fazle Rabbi also mentioned that the issue of excess tax collection has been proven.

Meanwhile, UP Chairman Ashraful Islam has denied the allegations against him. He said that there was a deliberate conspiracy against him along with the Union Parishad.

In this regard, Rafiqul Islam, the lessee of Shalbahan Hut, said on the phone, that the traders complained to me that the tax of Tk 200 per truck has been canceled and Tk 30 per sack. Tax is about Tk 6,000 per truck. This matter was informed to me and I informed the administration.
