Another 15 bodies were recovered, total 40

In Boda upazila of Panchagarh, the bodies of 15 more people have been recovered in the incident of boat sinking in Karatoa River. The bodies of 40 people including women and children were found. Executive Officer of Boda Upazila Soleiman Ali confirmed this.

 

Dead bodies are found downstream in Atrai and Punarbhava rivers. The fire service started the second day of rescue work from 6 am on Monday (September 26). First, the fire service recovered the bodies of 3 women and 1 child from Mistripara in Debiganj.

 

After that, the bodies of 6 more people were recovered from Madea, Aulia Ghat and Khansama of Dinajpur. Apart from this, many others are missing. Rescue operations are underway to find them.

 

On Monday (September 26) morning Panchagarh Fire Service and Civil Defense Assistant Deputy Director Sheikh Md. Mahabubul Alam said, eight fire service units of Panchagarh and surrounding districts are doing rescue work since morning.

 

Apart from this, a total of 9 divers in three diving teams from Rangpur, Kurigram and Rajshahi participated in the rescue work. He said that 40 bodies have been recovered so far.

 

The district administration constituted a committee of five members headed by Additional District Magistrate of Panchagarh Dipankar Roy to investigate the incident. The committee has been asked to submit its report within the next three working days.

 

Among the dead are 24 people from Boda Upazila, 13 from Debiganj, one from Atawari and one from Thakurgaon Sadar, said Dipankar, head of the investigation committee formed by the district administration.

 

On Sunday (September 25) at noon, around 1.5 to 200 Sanatan Dharmabalambi people were going to Badveswari temple from Madea area to celebrate the Mahalaya festival at Boda Badveswari temple. The boat sank with passengers in the Karatoa River at Aolia Ghat to carry passengers beyond its capacity.
