Campaign goes in full swing

In the first phase of the Upazila Parishad elections, voting will be held in Barisal Sadar and Bakerganj upazilas on May 8. Candidates are already plowing the electoral field to win the election. None of the current chairmen in these two upazilas are participating in this election. However, there are several strong candidates in the electoral field.

Meanwhile, as there is no party symbol of the Awami League in this election and other political parties are not participating in the election, the candidates are participating in the upazila election as independent candidates. Since BNP did not participate this time as before, most of the candidates are supported by the Awami League in these two upazilas.

However, the general voters and candidates said that it would be a competitive election regardless of the candidate. There are two new candidates for the post of chairman in these two upazilas. And both of them are optimistic about winning. One of them is Zakir Hossain, General Secretary of Barisal Press Club in Barisal Sadar Upazila, and Biswas Matiur Rahman Badsha, Senior Joint General Secretary of Central Jubo League, has become the chairman candidate in Bakerganj.

According to the sources, Barisal Sadar Upazila Parishad general secretary Zakir Hossain, Mahanagar Jubo League joint convener Mahmudul Haque Khan Mamun, Barisal Sadar Upazila Awami League president Monirul Islam, current vice chairman Mahabubur Rahman Madhu, and Abdul Malek have received nomination validity in Barisal Sadar Upazila Parishad elections. In this upazila, there is a glimpse of a fierce fight between Zakir Hossain and Mahmudul Haque Khan Mamun for the post of chairman. Faizul Islam (Sajib), former Barisal Mahanagar Chhatra League president Jasim Uddin, former vice chairman Mohammad Shahnewaz, Hadis Mir, and Mahidur Rahman (Mahad) have been nominated for the post of vice chairman.

Teachers Nehar Begum, Maria Akhter, and Mosammat Halima Begum Happy have been nominated for the post of female vice chairman. On the other hand, Mutiur Rahman (Badsha), Niamat Abdullah, Rajib Ahmed Talukdar has been nominated for the post of Chairman in Bakerganj Upazila. Upazila Awami League presidents Saiful Islam Daqua, Shahbaz Mia, Kamrul Hossain have been nominated for the post of vice chairman. The nomination of Tahmina Begum and Jahanara Begum for the post of female vice chairman has been validated.
