Farabi of Kurigram made a telescope

A teenager named Fahad Al Farabi (16) has made a telescope in the remote area of Rajarhat Upazila of Kurigram and has created quite a response in the area.

It is known that the telescope was named NEKO-K-1 after the pet cat.

The people of the area are happy to see the talent of making a telescope at home using intelligence and technology. People are thronging every day to see the clear image of the moon and the sun with the open eye through the telescope.

Fahad Al Farabi is the younger son of Zainul Abedin Khandkar of Mekutari village of Rajarhat Upazila. He is a 10th class student of Rajar Hat Pilot High School.

Fahad Al Farabi was very interested in learning about space since childhood. I really enjoy reading the position of planets, stars, satellites on the pages of books, he said. At the end of 2021, he got down to collecting equipment for making telescopes. A telescope in the market is Tk 40-50 thousand. As a student, he could not collect so much money, so he started making the telescope himself in 2023. Fahmid Al Jaber, the elder brother of Fahad Al Farabi, directly and indirectly assisted in this work. Fahad Al Farabi succeeded in making the telescope within three months.

Fahad Al-Farabi said I wanted to work with space since I was a child. I could not work because I did not have an Astronomy instrument. In 2023, I was able to collect the equipment from an astronomy house in Dhaka and make the telescope.

He also said that PVC pipe; lens, mount, focal, aperture, mirror, focuser, metal 3D spider and wood are required to make the telescope. The weight of the telescope is only 12 kg. Through it, the scene can be captured from a distance of 3 lakh km. There is a desire to make more advanced telescopes and micro telescopes in the future. Besides, if I get any government support, I will work to provide telescopes to people at low cost.

Zainul Abedin, Farabi's father, said, Farabi was a bit bored when he started making telescopes. He started to like it because he was busy making these at home instead of hanging out outside. He is also very good at chess. He plays chess at the district level and in the capital and earns cash. When he started making the telescope with that money, I helped him by giving him some extra money. The cost of making the telescope was only Tk 17 thousand. A telescope of this quality is Tk 40-50 thousand in the market. I always hope that Farabi will do something better.

Md Mizanur Rahman, assistant teacher of Rajarhat Pilot High School, said that Fahad Al Farabi is a good student. Apart from studies, he is more interested in creative work. Wish Farabi to do better.
