Fire guts 4 shops  in Basail, 1 dead

A man named Syed Manjurul Islam (60) was killed in a fire in a market in Basail, Tangail. Meanwhile, four shops were burnt to ashes. The fire took place in the Aisra market of the upazila at midnight on Monday (February 6).

The deceased Syed Manjurul Islam is the son of the deceased Syed Anwar Hossain of Aisra village. He ran a tailors shop in the market.

Eyewitnesses said that around two o‍‍`clock in the night a fire suddenly broke out in a shop in Isra Bazar. Seeing the matter, the locals tried to control the fire. Meanwhile, four shops caught fire. After informing the fire service, they reached the spot about two hours later. Locals brought the fire under control before they reached the spot. Meanwhile, Manjurul Islam, who was inside the tailors shop, died. During the fire, goods worth around Tk 15 lakh were burnt to ashes in four shops.

Local UP member Babul Sarkar said, "Suddenly a fire broke out from the tailors‍‍` shop. At that time Manjurul was sleeping inside that shop. Unable to get out of there, he died in the fire. The goods of four shops were burnt to ashes in the fire.

Basil fire service station in-charge Mazharul Islam said the fire started from a short circuit in the tailors shop. It is believed that the man in the tailors shop died after unsuccessfully trying to control the fire. In this incident, four shops and houses were burnt and there was a loss of around seven and a half lakh taka. The body of the deceased was handed over to the family in the presence of the police.
