The District Magistrate has formed a six-member joint committee to take action to prevent environmental pollution in Satkhira district city and Pransayar canal. Additional District Magistrate Bishnupad Pal issued a circular on behalf of the District Magistrate by the decision taken in the Satkhira District Monthly Law and Order Committee meeting last Tuesday at noon. The six-member joint committee includes two from the municipality, two from the Department of Environment Satkhira, and two policemen from Satkhira Police Station. The members of the joint committee are the Executive Officers of Satkhira Municipality Md. In the circular issued by Satkhira District Magistrate, it has been stated that the six-member joint committee will monitor activities to prevent environmental pollution in the district city and Pransayar canal. The joint committee funded by Satkhira Municipality will undertake monitoring activities by installing CC cameras at necessary places of Pransayar Canal.
The joint committee will sensitize the people of the surrounding area of Pransayar Canal. Those who throw dirt, garbage, and waste will be warned and given the necessary directions. The Department of Environment will issue a notice to the violator and, if necessary, file a case under the Bangladesh Environment Protection Act, 1995. Satkhira Municipality, Department of Environment, and Satkhira Thana will take effective steps based on the information given by the joint committee to continue the activities to prevent the environmental pollution of Pransayar Canal, the district town. The Joint Committee shall provide updated information from time to time to the learned District Magistrate, Satkhira, and submit any comments or recommendations.
