Goods not found in govt-fixed price

In the current month of Ramadan, when the suffering of common consumers is at its peak due to the increase in the prices of daily commodities, the government fixed the prices of 29 daily commodities keeping in mind the plight of the buyers. But none of it is being sold at a government-fixed price in Dinajpur's Hili. Government directives are not being obeyed.

After visiting, it was seen last morning that all products including fish, chicken, beef, pulses, chickpeas, onions, and potatoes are being sold at high prices. The government fixed the price of beef is Tk 665. But traders are selling at Tk 700 to Tk 720 per kg. Broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 190, Sonali chicken at Tk 280, and local chicken at Tk 520 per kg. Katal fish is at Tk 220 and Pangas at Tk 200, Potato at Tk 45, onion at Tk 55, garlic at Tk 120, and ginger at Tk 200. Apart from this, lentils (thin) are being sold at Tk 140, and chickpeas at Tk 105 per kg.

Golam Rabbani, who came to buy meat from Hili Bazaar, said that the government has fixed the price of beef at Tk 665. But the traders are selling at the previous price. He complained and said that the price set by the government is far from what it was before and the price has increased by Tk 20. If the government decides the price and sits at home, the price will not decrease. In the absence of regular market monitoring, nothing is going down in price.

Meanwhile, beef trader Bakul Hossain said that the government has reduced the price, but the price of beef has not decreased. Therefore, if you sell at the government price, you will have to calculate the loss.

Dinajpur District Consumer Rights Protection Assistant Director Mumtaz Sultana said that due to several complications, the government is unable to work with the fixed price. It is a matter of time. In addition, the production and transportation costs of those 29 products are not the same depending on the area. As a result, prices may vary.
