Two children drowned in a pond at Mohanpur in Rajshahi.
The accident took place at Kharta village of the upazila around 9:45 am yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Rajab Hossain (5), son of Rubel Hossain of Kharta village in Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi and Keya Khatun (5), daughter of Mukul Hossain of Lalpur upazila in Natore. Kya is her cousin and she was visiting her aunt's house.
It was known that the two went out of their house to play in the morning. At one stage, they drowned in the government pond leased by Bachchu Hossain next to the house. Later, the bodies of the two children floated in the pond. Locals recovered the bodies and took them to Mohanpur Upazila Health Complex. But the doctors there declared the two children dead.
Haridas Mondal, officer-in-charge of Mohanpur Police Station in Rajshahi, said an unnatural death (UD) case will be filed with the police station in this connection. After the legal process, the bodies of the two children were handed over to their families.
