In Khagrachari, Chittagong Hill Tracts, the communication system of Khagrachari district was disrupted due to landslides and landslides caused by continuous rains.
Traffic movement was stopped due to piles of mud and stones and uprooted trees on important roads. This stopped the transport of agricultural products, patient transport, and student travel. People of the hilly villages were in terrible distress.
Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force, especially Hill Ansar and Hill VDP members, stood by the people in this critical moment. Together with the local administration, they jumped into rescue and rehabilitation activities. Armed not with spades, shovels, and ropes, but equipped with humanity, this force plays a leading role in alleviating the suffering of the local people.
In Sadar Upazila and Bhuachhari areas, they removed rubble, mud, and trees voluntarily. They have built roads suitable for movement, cut earthen embankments, and built alternative roads. They have delivered food to the people trapped in the affected areas. With this extraordinary humanity, dedication, and sense of responsibility, they have proven that no matter how big the disaster, the power of cooperation is capable of dealing with it.
An Ansar-VDP member who participated in the rescue operation said, “It is our moral responsibility to stand by the people during a disaster. As per the instructions of the army chief, we have quickly restored road communication. We shall continue to serve until the situation is completely normal.”
