Rear Admiral Dr. Khandakar Akhter Hossain joins as VC of BMU

Rear Admiral Dr. Khandakar Akhter Hossain, NUP, ndc, psc, PhD, has assumed the pivotal role as the 5th Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Maritime University from yesterday.

He was commissioned in the Engineering Branch of Bangladesh Navy on 01 January 1991. He has completed his BSc and MSc Engineering in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering with commendable academic distinction from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from a reputed public university. He completed his Shipbuilding and Shipyard Management Course in China and USA. He has achieved a prestigious Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from both BUET and the University of California, USA. 

He has served as Chief Engineer Officer on board different frigates and corvettes. He successfully participated in a UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan. He was the project chief Naval Architect/Engineer of the state-of-the-art warship Shadhinota Class Missile Corvette project in China. He has served as GM (Shipbuilding), GM (Production), and GM (Planning and Marketing) in all BN-owned shipyards. He has performed various instructional duties at Bangladesh Naval Academy, Marine Academy, NIT, and MIST. He was also the Dean/Head of the NAME Department and ME Faculty at MIST. He has served as Member (Engineering) in the Chittagong Port Authority. He successfully performed the duties of Managing Director (MD) in all three shipbuilding heavy industries: Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL), Dockyard & Engineering Works Ltd (DEW) and Khulna Shipyard Ltd (KSY), and has contributed remarkably to the national shipbuilding industry. He has also performed his duties as Commodore Superintendent of Dockyard (CSD). Before joining here, he performed his duties in the prestigious post of Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Materiel). He is a fellow of IEB (BD), RINA (UK), and IAMSP (USA). He has more than one hundred and fifty international publications/papers on AI, IoT, Robotics, Satellite Communication, ship recycling, shipbuilding, energy solutions, human resource diversification, port operations, and advanced technologies in diversified international technical journals.

He is happily married with Dr. Sharmin Hasan and blessed with twin daughters and two sons.
