Farmers in great trouble

Moderate to severe heat waves are sweeping over Pabna. There is no comfort in public life. Agriculture, health and poultry farms have been adversely affected. The maximum temperature has been above 40 degrees Celsius for five consecutive days.

In such a situation, the chickens of the poultry farm are dying due to extreme heat. Egg production has started to decrease. And the farmers are confused about it. According to poultry farmers, chickens are dying due to extreme heat waves. Because every farm's house roof is made of tin. And the heat of the sun takes more than tin. That's why chicken needs more heat. Even splashing water on the chickens five to six times a day this summer is not working. Chickens are clucking in the heat. Dying of stroke. Chickens are not being fed properly.

Egg production has started to decrease. In the Jotgacha village of Maligacha union of Pabna Sadar upazila, it can be seen that there are many broiler and layer chicken farms in the village. Employees are busy taking care of the chickens on the farm. Some are spraying water on chickens, some are collecting eggs. On the other hand, electric fans are running to keep the farm cool. But even that is not working. The chickens are panting in the heat. Anisur Rahman, a worker at a poultry farm, said that since the onset of heat, chickens have started scurrying on the farm. The room is not cooling even with fan air.

Water is sprinkled on the body of the chicken several times a day. Still, the chickens are dying. There are two thousand chickens on their farm. At least 40 chickens have died in the past week. Last Saturday 8 chickens died. Jahangir Hossain, the owner of layer chicken farm in Bahadurpur village of Chatmohar upazila, said that medicines and saline are being given to chickens since the onset of heat. Food is also being given less as advised by Animal Husbandry Department. It reduces egg production. Chickens are dying of heat stroke.

Zahidul Islam, a farmer of Chandbha village in Atgharia upazila, said, "I will end up with such heat." I am very worried. The chickens are dying rapidly, it has not become difficult to keep the chickens as long as it is hot.'The attention of the District Livestock Officer Gaurang Kumar Talukdar was drawn in this regard. He said, "In order to protect the farm from extreme heat, the livestock department is advising the farmers in various ways, including the distribution of leaflets."He said, 'They are asking to spread water on the tin rice of the farm house, sprinkle water on the chickens and give the chickens more vitamin C-like food with saline.

On the other hand, it is advised not to give food during extra heat at noon. According to the sources of the district livestock department, there are 978 registered layer chicken farms in the district; There are about 500 farms outside this list. On the other hand, there are 1,130 registered broiler chicken farms. There are about 55 lakh chickens in these farms. However, the District Animal Resources Department does not have the information on how many chickens have died in the district so far due to extreme heat.
