Litchi pods falling for record heat

 

In this season, the maximum temperature in Dinajpur yesterday was 40.4 degrees Celsius. Temperatures range from 39° to forty-one degrees. Dinajpur Meteorological Office in-charge Tofazzal Hossain confirmed the matter. Litchigarden in Dinajpur has been damaged due to severe heat. In the hot sun, litchi pods are falling off. Various diseases including leaf dieback are occurring. Garden owners say this year's litchi yield will be less. Even after continuous watering, there is no water in litchi garden. Dinajpur Agricultural Extension Office Additional Deputy Director Anisuzzaman said, the district has 5424 hectares of litchi plantations. 25 thousand metric tons of litchis are produced from these gardens.

Anisuzzaman also said that watering the litchi garden should be continued all the time. At the same time, it is recommended to apply urea fertilizer. He also said, about 7 to 8 crore litchis are sold in Dinajpur district. Dinajpur District Litchi that lives in different districts including Dhaka-Chittagong. Dinajpur district litchi is famous not only in the country but also abroad. Also litchi is exported abroad. Meanwhile, the water level in Dinajpur district has gone down due to continuous heatwave. Farmers are also struggling to raise water. Not only litchi but also Irri Boro Abde is under threat to the farming community of the district. Paddy Root Rot Paddy plants are turning yellow in color. Dinajpur Agriculture Office advises that the land should always have irrigation system.Then the production of rice will be fine. Otherwise there is a possibility of disaster.

Meanwhile, in the heat, the poor and low-income people are in dire straits. Low income people have left the food collection houses in this heat. Many returned home empty-handed, unable to work. Agricultural laborers are struggling to irrigate Erie Boro fields due to extreme heat.

Belal Hossain, a farmer of Mustafabad village in Mangalpur union of Biral upazila, said that it was not possible to water the mango and litchi trees due to the lack of water in the tubewell.
