Onion and potato import stops

Onion and potato import from India through the Hili land port is stopped due to slot booking complications. The West Bengal state government of India suddenly stopped slot booking for onion and potato export from Sunday afternoon without any prior notice. As a result, traders from both countries are in trouble with the export of the two products.

Even after two days, traders have expressed their anger as the slot booking problem has not been resolved. Meanwhile, they have faced huge losses as they have not been able to import potatoes and onions even after opening LCs.

Hili port importer said that a meeting of exporters and traders with the concerned officials is scheduled for Tuesday in Kolkata to resolve the complications created. They hope that a fruitful decision can be made in that meeting.

Hili land port importer SM Reza Bipul said that the sudden closure of potatoes and onions is causing trouble. The traders demanded that the West Bengal government allow them to export onions and potatoes under the previous LC.
