Traditional boat racing held

 

A traditional boating competition was held at Chougacha in Jashore. Yesterday afternoon this boat race was bought at Morjad Baar of Jagdishpur Union of Upazila. Like every year, this boat race was organized by the Mirzapur Youth Sangha Club on the occasion of Pahela Baisakh. Hasanuzzaman, former president of Jagdishpur Union Jubo League, presided over it. Jessore-2 (Chougacha-Jhikargacha) Constituency MP Dr. Touhiduzzaman Tuhin spoke as the chief guest.

Mandarbaria Secondary School assistant teacher Abdul Quader gave a special guest speech by Chougacha police officer-in-charge (OC) Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury. At the end of the boating competition, the chief guest of the event gave the prizes to the winners. This year the winners were given cash prizes as gifts.

Since this morning, thousands of people from different areas started crowding the two banks of Baor to enjoy the boating competition. In the presence of children, teenagers, men, and women of all classes and professions, the overflowing crowd can be seen on both sides of the baor.

The boat race starts around 4 pm. Various fairs are held on both banks of the river on the occasion of boating. All kinds of children's toys and different kinds of sweet sweets have taken place at the fair. 18 well-equipped bich boats took part in the competition. Paritosh Babu's team was awarded Tk 20,000 as the 1st prize, Robin's team was given Tk 15,000 as the 2nd prize, and Vipul Biswas team was given Tk 10,000 as the 3rd prize. Apart from this, each participating team was given a consolation prize of Tk 1,000 in cash.
