City dwellers trouble for poor-waterlogged roads

From Satkhira Post Office Junction to Satkhira Government College to Old Satkhira Hatkhola, the pitch of the road has turned into a pothole since few months.

The district citizen committee has human chained several times demanding the reform of this road. Before the renovation, the road was washed away by the normal monsoon rains.

Satkhira government college ground has sunk. Pedestrians are drowning in the water.Ordinary people are the victims of extreme suffering. Not only Satkhira Govt College Road, but all internal roads like this road have turned into ditches. The road from old Satkhira through Baganbari to Ghuddi Dangi has become impassable.

Satkhira Day-Night College Junction to Chaltetla Bazar, Chaltetla Bazar to Kukhrali, Bengaler Junction to Garerkanda, Garerkanda to Kukhrali, Kamalnagar, Itagacha, Palashpol, Munjitpur, Sultanpur, Mehdibagh, Baddipur, Katia, Rasulpur and other internal roads are in poor condition.

When the road is in this condition, the rains of monsoon have brought another level of misery to the lives of the citizens. Flooding has occurred in Satkhira city due to the normal rains of the season, poor roads and waterlogged municipalities. Hundreds of families have been trapped in water due to flooding caused by rain. Satkhira municipal authorities did not show any signs of taking any measures to drain the water. Ordinary working people with low income have suffered.

Abdus Samad, general secretary of Satkhira district district land association, described the sufferings of the townspeople in this way and said that the condition of the road from Satkhira circuit house junction, Zila Parishad junction to bus terminal Khulna road, circuit house junction to SP bungalow junction is very bad. Every day thousands of people move on internal roads. But when it starts raining, the difference between the road and the river is almost indistinguishable. The black, foul-smelling water of the drains and the rainwater are flowing together on the side of the road.

CPB leader Comrade Abul Hossain said that despite Satkhira being a first class municipality, there is no drainage system. Light rains cause waterlogging. Flooding has occurred in various areas of Satkhira municipality due to light rain. Roads are submerged. The residents of the city are suffering from this.

College teacher Idris Ali said that most of the roads in the city have been submerged due to normal rains for several days. About one-third of the municipality is flooded. In the Kamalnagar area of ​​the city, the drainage channel has been blocked due to unplanned fishing enclosure. Ordinary pedestrians have suffered due to this. As there is no effective drainage system, the roads are flooded with rain water. Water has accumulated in the yard of many people. Satkhira Govt College ground along with road submerged in rain. As the road is impassable, people are suffering from severe suffering due to rain water flooding on it. This situation has arisen due to lack of rain water drainage system.

Advocate Al Mahmud Palash of Kamalnagar area said that water has accumulated in their area as well. The drain is blocked. There is no way out. Water has accumulated on the road. This happens every year. Expressing his anger, he further said, day by day, many things change. Not only the picture of the sufferings of Satkhira's townspeople does not change.

Abul Kalam Azad, Member Secretary of Satkhira District Citizen Committee, said that there is no effective drainage system in Satkhira municipality. It causes waterlogging even if it rains a little. Municipal roads are already in bad condition. On top of that, the water accumulates in the rainy season and the suffering increases several times. Municipal authorities are silent on these issues!

Satkhira Municipality Mayor (Acting) Feroz Hasan said that there is no big allocation available in the municipality. From the small allocations that come in and some of the municipality's own income, drains are being renovated from time to time in various wards. However, a project worth 3.5 crore rupees has been passed. Road and drain work will start soon.
