Four burnt by cylinder blast

A female student of Gono Bishwabidyalay and four members of her family were burnt in an explosion from a gas leakage in Dhaka's Dhamrai.

The accident occurred while cooking for Sahri in the Mokamtola area of the municipality yesterday morning. Locals rescued the burnt victims and admitted them to Sheikh Hasina National Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Station Officer of Dhamrai Fire Service Sohel Rana said that their condition is critical.

The victims are retired government official Nannu Mia (62), his wife Sufia Begum (48), daughter Gono Bishwabidyalay student Sathi Akter Mau (23), and son college student Sohag (19). Their house is in the Uttarpara area of Baishakanda Union of Dhamrai. They live on the ground floor of the four-stored building of Ibrahim Mia, an American expatriate, in the Mokamtola area.

Locals said that after the accident, Dhamrai fire service personnel came and rescued the burnt people and sent them to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Dhamrai Fire Service Station Officer Sohel Rana said that it is believed that they were burnt due to a gas cylinder explosion due to leakage. Their condition appears to be critical.
