A husband named Rupchan has been accused of killing by suffocating his wife Salma Akhtar and throwing her into the pond for preventing her husband's extramarital affair in Sonargaon of Narayanganj.
The police recovered the body of the deceased from the Shaheed Commissioner's pond in Sonargaon Bhattpur village of the upazila on Friday morning.
The deceased Salma was the daughter of deceased Salauddin Mia of Tajpur village and the wife of Rupchan. They have two children named Abdullah Arban Qaif (18) and Khadija Akhtar (8).
The deceased's son, Abdullah Arban Qaif, said that his father was involved in extramarital affairs with a woman for a long time. When he was prevented from it, there was quarrel held between his father and mother. Later, his mother's body was found 200 meters away from the house on Friday morning.
In this regard, the elder brother of the deceased, Ripon Khan, said that in 2005, my sister got married to Rupchan, son of Sona Mia of Bhattpur village. They have two children in family life. For the past few years he has been involved with various women for the sake of working in a garment factory. He often physically abused my sister if she was interrupted. He had a fight with my sister at night because of his illegal works on Thursday night. Later, my sister body was found on the pond. I demand exemplary punishment for this murder.
Sonargaon Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mohsin Mia said that the body of the deceased was recovered and sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for post-mortem. It is believed to have been strangled to death. The husband has been arrested for his involvement in the incident.
