Manjurul‍‍`s success in strawberry cultivation

Manjurul Islam of Joypur village of Meherpur’s Mujibnagar, he is a Networking Engineer by profession. As a hobby, he first collected ten strawberry seedlings and cultivated them at home. From that hobby, he later became successful by cultivating strawberries on one-and-a-half bigha land. Strawberry fruit has juice with an attractive smell, color, and taste. Many people have started growing strawberries commercially, although they have been growing them as a hobby in a tub at home or rooftop farming. One of them is Manjurul Islam.

At first, he cultivated strawberries on the roof of his house on a small scale, but this year, he cultivated strawberries on one-and-a-half bigha land and had great success. He collected strawberry seedlings from Rajshahi tissue culture and planted them in mid-November. Fruit collection has started from the first of January. Already he has sold strawberry seedlings worth Tk 2 lakh and strawberries worth Tk 6 lakh. He hopes to sell 6 lakh more strawberries from this land. 70 to 80 kg of fruits is being collected daily. They are selling the fruit at the price of Tk 800 to Tk 1000 per kg.

Meherpur Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Alamgir Hossain said, Meherpur is a very prosperous district in agriculture. Farmers are cultivating high-quality and exotic fruits here. We call them 'smart farmers'. Farmers here are very interested in adopting new technologies. Similarly, in Meherpur district, a farmer from Mujibnagar cultivated strawberries on one-and-a-half bigha land this year for the first time. This fruit is a highly nutritious and high-value crop. He has been successful in strawberry farming. He is also getting a good market price. We Hope that this strawberry cultivation will lead to more cultivation in this district. We are advising them. The Agriculture Department is always on their side.
