Nabiganj of Habiganj is being developed as an industrial area ahead of Bibiana gas field. Two 900 MW power plants have already been built here. Several established companies including Pran-RFL, RK Company have started operations in Panumda of Nabiganj. Besides, the construction of fertilizer plants and garments is in full swing.
Locals say that the work of Sherpur Economic Zone of Nabiganj is going on. Bibiana is one of the most important zones of greater Sylhet division including Nabiganj. Bibiana has changed the image of Nabiganj. The Dhaka-Sylhet highway and the proposed Asian Highway have been constructed at Buchir in Nabiganj. In particular, the Dhaka-Sylhet highway has brought a breakthrough in the communication system of Nabiganj. Big business establishments are now coming up in Nabiganj as the communication system with the capital has improved. In the meantime, Bibiana gas field has introduced the people of Nabiganj at the national and international level. Work is underway to install pipelines to supply gas to every household in Nabiganj. A garment factory has already been established near Aushkandi Bazar and the production work is going on. About 10,000 people have been employed, according to garment authorities. Besides, Bangaj Group of Dhaka is also making efforts to establish its own industrial establishment in Nabiganj.
The construction of two power plants on the banks of Kushiyara river between Parkul, Paharpur and Bongaon villages of Aushkandi union of Nabiganj has been completed. Besides, initiatives have been taken to build a fertilizer plant in the area.
Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, director of the newly built J Eyes Suit Limited, said that their garment will turn five years old in January. Production is in full swing. It has created employment for 10,000 people. There has been a huge change in the commercial sector of the area in recent times.
Nabiganj Municipality Mayor Shabir Ahmed Chowdhury said the connection is being provided after completing the construction of pipelines to provide gas to every house of the municipality. Bibiana is at the heart of this change.
UNO Imran Shahriar said it is true that Nabiganj industrial area is being developed as a police station, but there are not enough law enforcement personnel to ensure security.
Sheikh Zahidur Rahman, Communication Director of Chevron Bangladesh, said that in addition to the prosperity of Nabiganj industrial area, Chevron Bangladesh is working in various sectors including education, health.
MP Gazi Md Shahnawaz Milad said many industries have come up in the area. Nabiganj will become an important upazila of the country after the completion of Bibiana Power Plant, Gas Field and Economic Zone.
