Demand for removal of gate built on road

The residents held a press conference demanding the removal of the gate illegally built in the middle of 'Mannan Khan Road' of Ward No 24 South Rupatali. This press conference was held at Shaheed Abdur Rob Serniabat Barishal Press Club yesterday afternoon. More than 200 residents have given public signatures demanding the eviction of the illegally constructed gate of Abdul Al Naeem Royal in that area.

Shamim Khan, son of Habib Khan of the area, read a written statement at the press conference on behalf of the residents. He said that around 2000 people and more than 500 local voters travel through this road every day. Mannan Khan also wanted the road to be named after him when he was alive. Soon, after Mannan Khan's death on 15 February 2005, his son Abdul Al Nayem built an iron gate with his barbed wire fence at Pilar in the middle of the Royal Road. Due to this, more than 500 family members in the area have suffered in the movement of the road.

In such a situation, the residents of the area submitted a written petition to the Barishal City Corporation (BCC) to remove the gate with public signatures. The local people demanded to remove the gate built without any plan and let the hundred-year-old road remain. They want that it will be called Mannan Khan Road. But if the road is closed, thousands of people will suffer. Sheikh Salam, Sohrab, and more than half a hundred residents were present at the press conference.
