In Jessore's Abhaynagar, the tin sheds of three classrooms of Mathurapur Purakhali Secondary School were blown away in a recent storm. Teaching takes place in vulnerable classrooms. Teachers, students and parents have demanded the damaged classroom tin shed to be repaired as soon as possible.
It is known that the Kalbaisakhi storm (norwester) started after the school holidays on May 23. During the storm, tin sheds of class 6, 7 and 8 classes in the school were blown away. Later, tin sheds of 7th and 8th classes were partially repaired from school funds. On May 25, a written application was made to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer on behalf of the school management board for the repair of the damaged tin shed of the class 6.
On Sunday morning at Mathurapur Purakhali Secondary School in Sridharpur Union of Upazila, it was seen that the class 6 students were teaching in the storm-damaged classroom. Class 7 and 8 students are studying in partially renovated classrooms.
Haider Ali, acting headmaster of the school, said that the tin sheds of the class 7 and 8 rooms have been partially repaired from the school's funds. Since there is no money in the fund left for the repair of the tin shed of the class 6, an application has been made for assistance.
Rabiul Islam, president of the school management board, said that young children are studying in dangerous classrooms. A written application was made to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer asking for a donation of 8 bun tins and 50,000 taka last May 25 for the repair of classrooms. So far they have recieved nothing.
In this regard, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mezbah Uddin said on the phone that an application has been made to the District Commissioner for allocation as there is currently no tin. Mathurapur Purakhali Secondary School will be supported as soon as the allocation is available.
