Two Bangladeshi  die crossing to Italy

Two youths of Raipura Upazila of Narsingdi were killed when a boat sank on their way to Italy from Libya across the Mediterranean Sea. The deceased are Istiaq Hasan Imran (32), son of Idris Mia of Musapur Union of the upazila and Faisal Abedin (23), son of Saudi expatriate Osman Mia of Chanderkandi Paschimpara area. The deceased Imran was the former general secretary of the Chhatra League of that union. Two boats carrying migrants sank off the southern coast of Italy on Tuesday, June 18. Imran was in one of them. 11 people died including him. 60 people including children are missing in this incident. Faisal Abedin left for Italy by sea 18 days ago. Since then he has been missing, his family said. Faisal Abedin is the son of Saudi expatriate Osman Mia of Chanderkandi Uttarpara. Studied in Raipura Government College. The dream was to go to Italy. Last year, he crossed over to Libya through a broker named Rakib Mia, a Libyan expatriate from Begmabad area of ​​the upazila, without informing anyone of his family. According to the agreement, Faisal's family paid Tk600,000  to the broker after reaching Libya. The remaining Tkfour lakh were to be paid after reaching Italy.

Shilpi Begum, mother of Faisal Abedin, said that Faisal called me after going to Dubai through a broker. Broker Rakib did not talk to us about taking Italy. 18 days ago, Faisal told me on the phone that he was leaving for Italy. Since then the son's mobile is off. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the news of Faisal Abedin's death was told to the family by a relative of the Saudi expatriate. Later it went viral on Facebook through social media. According to that post, two bodies floated on the shore of the Talmayda Sea in the city of Benghazi, Libya. The Sanya Coast Guard recovered the passport of one of them. The recovered passport belonged to Faisal Abedin. His body is currently at the local Al Marza Hospital mortuary. A man named Sifat, a Libyan expatriate, claimed that the news of Faisal's death spread on Facebook was false. He said this during a phone conversation with Faisal's uncle Mujibur Rahman on Wednesday afternoon.

After investigation, it is known that two brokers named Rajib Mia and Rakib Mia have been living in Libya for a long time. They used to take Tk 12 to 15 lakhs from people hoping to migrate to Italy by sea. Migrants are often held in detention centers in Libya before being sent to Italy. There they were not given enough food and water.

When the money was collected, it was sent to Italy by sea. Even though many died by drowning in the sea during the unsafe journey, their activities did not stop. Rajib Mia is a resident of Ramnagar in Musapur Union of Raipura Upazila. Although he has elderly parents in the country, Rajiv does not have much contact with them. Rakib Mia is a resident of Begmabad area of ​​Maheshpur Union of the same upazila. He also sent people to Italy. According to them, the family members of the people who wanted to go to Italy delivered the money to the family and representatives in the country. Musapur Union Parishad Chairman Md.

Hossain Bhuiyan said that Istiaq Hasan Imran was the former general secretary of Musapur Union Chhatra League. My deepest condolences on his death. Such a death is not desirable. He advised everyone to be more aware of going to Italy illegally. Officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station Safayet Hossain Palash said that they have not received any complaint from the families of the two victims. Raipura Upazila Executive Officer Mo Iqbal Hasan said that there is no information that he died on the way to Italy by sea. However, if a complaint is received from their family, necessary action will be taken.
