Two brothers killed in mob lynching

Two construction workers were killed in a mob beating at Panchpalli in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur. Five others were seriously injured. Many policemen were injured while rescuing them.

Hasanuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the death of two workers.

The deceased were identified as Ashraful (21), son of Shahjahan Khan and his brother Ashadul (15).

It was known that the locals beat the construction workers on Thursday evening. Later, they were tied hand and foot in a room of a school building under construction and kept hostage on the floor.

On receiving the news, police led by UNO and OC of Madhukhali Police Station went to the spot in the evening. At that time, additional police from Faridpur and Rajbari reached there. They started throwing brickbats at the police. Police opened fire to bring the situation under control.

Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Kamrul Ahsan Talukder and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Morshed Alam rushed to the spot. The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition. There is extreme tension even at the time of writing the report on this incident. There is panic and tension in the entire area.

Faridpur Superintendent of Police Mohammad Morshed Alam said, "On information, we came from Faridpur with additional forces and rescued them and the injured were sent to Faridpur Hospital."

Kamrul Ahsan Talukder, deputy commissioner of Faridpur, told reporters from the spot that the incident started after news of setting fire to a Kali temple at Panchpalli village here. Villagers suspect that construction workers of an under-construction primary school here set fire to it. They beat the workers mercilessly and beat them with bricks and seriously injured them. The injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Everyone's in bad condition. Apart from Madhukhali, BGB will be deployed at important places in the city. No one will be allowed to disrupt communal harmony.
