Hundreds of brick kilns have been built in different unions of Barishal's Bakerganj. Most of the brick kilns are not licensed by the Department of Environment. The brick kilns of Kalskathi Union near the upazila city are built in the residential area. All these brick kilns are built next to most of the educational institutions of Kalsakathi Union.
Brick kilns are being constructed everywhere due to a lack of supervision by the authorities. And forest wood is being burnt in these brick kilns. Due to this, the environment is under extreme threat. Moreover, the toxic black smoke of the brick kilns is bad affecting the cropland.
In this regard, Bakerganj upazila executive officer Mohammad Saifur Rahman said that an operation will be conducted by the upazila administration to identify illegal brick kilns as soon as possible.
