Youth killed by DB police car hit

A young man named Ziaul Haque Rahman (35) was killed after being hit by a DB police vehicle in Nangalkot of Cumilla.

The accident took place near the gate of Montali Jhiktia Ishak Girls' High School in Raikot South UP of the upazila around 11pm on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Ziaur Haque, son of Ismail Hossain of Montli village and father of two children.

According to eyewitnesses, Ziaul was returning home on a motorcycle after closing his workshop shop from the head of the Montali bus stand road. On the way, a speeding microbus carrying DB police hit the motorcycle. Ziaul was seriously injured after falling from the motorcycle. Later, locals rescued and took him to Upazila Health Complex and later to Laksam General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Immediately after the incident, the driver of the DB police car fled. Later, locals detained the three people in the car and came to know that they were DB policemen. The detainees were handed over to the district DB police.

The arrested DB members said that they lost control of the car while chasing the drug dealer. This led to the accident.
