Indoor medical services not started in five months Kushtia Medical Hospital

Prime Minister inaugurated Kushtia Medical College Hospital in November last year, after a three-year project construction period, with an estimated cost of Tk 300 crores, which increased to Tk 700 crores. Five months have already passed, but indoor health care has not started in the 500-bed Kushtia Medical College Hospital building.

The doctors struggle to provide medical services in the 250-bed Kushtia General Hospital, a temporary medical hospital, amid endless suffering. As a result, 1000 indoor or admission and 2000 outdoor patients who come for medical treatment are being disrupted. The patients and doctors have demanded the immediate opening of Kushtia Medical College Hospital supporting such complaints. The Public Works Department handed over the building to the authorities last February as the construction of the project was completed, but the hospital could not be opened for not getting administrative approval from the health ministry, the authorities said.

Kushtia Medical College Hospital Senior Consultant Doctor Md Rokiur Rahman said that doctors and nurses are struggling to treat 240 to 250 children against 20 beds for children. In various challenges, we continue to try our best to provide services. Very soon if indoor treatment is started in the Medical College Hospital in its building then the situation will improve. Only specialist doctors can not ensure proper and advanced treatment of critical or life-threatening patients, so we want a pleasant environment with infrastructural facilities, equipment, and medicines.

Kushtia Medical College Hospital neuro medicine department doctor, Dr. Md Nasimul Bari Bappi said, the reality is that even with the highest goodwill, sincerity, and the desired advanced medical services are being disrupted.

Resident Medical Officer Dr Tapas Kumar Sarkar said, 250-bed Kushtia General Hospital has been used as a temporary medical institution for the last 10 years in place of the 500-bed Kushtia Medical College Hospital and for this, the condition of the medical services here is in bad condition. About 900 to 1000 indoor and about 2000 outpatients are treated here every day. While providing services in this way, there is a deviation in the relationship of service friendliness and trust between doctors and patients. On the other hand, the expected advanced medical services are being disrupted. However, all the problems can be solved only if the opportunity for advanced health services created in Kushtia Medical College Hospital is started.

The director of Kushtia Medical College Hospital Dr. Anwarul Islam said, except for some minor finishing work, almost all the preparations have been completed for the indoor medical services of Kushtia Medical College Hospital to start. Only after receiving administrative approval from the concerned Ministry of Health, medical services for indoor patients will be started in the hospital through the recruitment of necessary manpower and associated capacity. I think it will be possible within the next two to three months.
