Professor Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury has taken charge as the president of the new executive committee of the Bangladesh Society of Medical Microbiologists (BSMM) and Dr. Md. Abdullah Yusuf has been elected as the general secretary.
The newly elected committee members assumed their duties at a function at a restaurant in the capital on Saturday.
Earlier, the 9th National Conference and 8th Annual General Meeting of BSMM were held at Kurmitola Golf Club on April 19. About 400 medical microbiologists from all over the country participated in the conference. Several research papers were presented in the scientific session. The new committee for the term of 2025-27 was formed on the same day.
The Secretary of the Health Education and Family Welfare Department, Dr. Sarwar Bari, and the Director General of the Directorate of Health Education, Professor Dr. Nazmul Hossain, were special guests at the conference. The chief guest was Professor Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The newly elected President, Professor Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, is the Principal of East West Medical College and Vice President of BMDC. General Secretary Dr. Abdullah Yusuf is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital.
The new committee has pledged to promote microbiologists working in government service, collaborate in research, combat antibiotic resistance, and coordinate with doctors on IPC initiatives. In addition, plans have been made to work for the professional development of members through scientific seminars, training, workshops, and online CME programs across the country.
